I assume you know what's going on with Reddit, but in case you don't here is a summary. According to Bloomberg Reddit has aggreed to sell it's user content to a unnamed AI company for 60 million dollars a year.

You know what that means. Every single piece of data on Reddit that includes the copyrighted materials. They sell all of them for a cheap price of $60 Million and you'll get nothing from it. And the most important thing with that the destination of that data is unknown.
This is ironic because when they started to charge for their API, their main reason was to stop data scraping and AI training from Reddit, and now they're handling the data firsthand for these companies. This just proves how stingy those companies are.
Another unknown thing is how this data is going to be processed or handled. For example, will it contain user information, or will images be processed with their exif metadata, etc. And I believe that this is a big thread on user privacy.
We'll see how that turns out on our side when we get an official announcement about that. We can't say anything for sure right now, and I don't want to give you guys the wrong information.
What we can do now?
So currently what I believe we can do is overwriting the existing content using a tool like Power Delete Suite or ares and deleting your account. Overwriting content is important because Reddit doesn't remove the user content when the account is deleted and I personally don't want sketchy AI companies to train their generative models using my data without giving me a single cent or credit.
I don't know about you guys but for me Reddit was already a toxic wasteland since that API change, community has became more and more toxic and this data sales was the last nail in the coffin for Reddit and today I'm finally leaving that platform for good. And I believe you should too. Fediverse is becoming a much better and reachable place every day and you should give it a shot. Trust me you'll like it.
