How do I find personal blogs online

Sun Sep 07 2025

The other day I was talking to a friend of mine about blogs and other stuff and than he asked about the source of my inspiration while writing those posts.

It was a very very long answer but in a summary, I told him the source of my inspirations mostly came from the blogs I follow around the world wide web. Or in a other term, Internet.

Than he asked the question of this post:

Ok Batuhan but, where do you find these blogs?

And at that moment, I had no answer for that. I was following some of those blogs for more than 2 years right now but I had no idea where they have been came from.

You may be laughing at me right now but I'm pretty serious. While writing those sentences. I really had no idea where I found them and where they made their way into my RSS reader.

So I made a time travel to past. I pulled my old iPhone 7 Plus out of my dusty drawer and took a look on my history. And luckily I found their sources!

So now, since I know where did I found those blogs, let me answer the question that my friend has asked me.

Where did I found those blogs?

So the blogs I follow does not come from a single source, but they come from multiple main sources. Let me break this down to you. So you can find them too.

1. Mastodon

Back in 2020, my vision about personal blogs were very limited and at that time I believed they were a thing of the past.

Than I joined Mastodon in 2021 and discovered the personal blogs written by people. My first discovery was the blog written by an author that called himself Joel Chrono.

It got my attention because seeing someone still writing a personal blog was amazed me. After a small tour around his website, I discovered other known blogs such as Kev Quirk's personal blog and Lazybear via the webring he had on his site.

And I discovered that those people also had an active Mastodon account.

After that, this topic of personal blogging has got my interest and I've started to follow the #blog hashtag over at Mastodon and discovered dozens of new blogs from various writers around the fediverse.

And I still follow almost every blog I've discovered at Fediverse.

So in a nutshell, I discovered the term of personal blogging on Mastodon and found my inspiration there. So if you're looking for blogs to follow, give Mastodon a shot! There are lots of small writers out there and I believe you'll find some interesting ones.

2. Blogrolls

A blogroll is typically a list of other blogs that writer of a blog follows or finds interesting.

Most writers including myself typically have a blogroll on their website and it's generally located on /blogroll page but some writers prefer to place it on somewhere different on their websites.

Those blogrolls have introduced me lots of interesting blogs and people around the world and I still follow some of them.

So if you're looking for similar blogs to a blog you know, give that writer's blogroll a shot!

3. Online Forums and websites

In 2021, I discovered the online forums such as Hacker News and lobste.rs.

If you don't know them, they're just online forums. In those forums, people share urls, ask questions and get comments about techy stuff they found over at the internet. And those stuff sometimes includes some interesting to follow personal blogs.

But they're typically related to tech and if you're looking for blogs in other topics, you better check out some other blog related websites.

There are lot's of websites related to finding personal blogs online and best ones I could recommend would be the feedle and blogroll.org.

Feedle, is a blog search engine, it allows you to search on the blogs and news around the world wide web. To me, it's a very useful website for finding blogs, blogposts and articles on a specific topic. It also has a Google like "I'm feeling lucky button" that takes you into a completely random topic and I must say, I really liked that feature. Sometimes, I even use that feature to find some inspirations for my blog :)

The site overall has a great design but some features are still under development and some bugs are expected. But if you want to discover new stuff, give Feedle a shot!

blogroll.org as the name suggest, is a crowd-sourced online platform for collecting and categorizing personal blogs around the world. All blogs on that site is added and categorized by their authors and it currently households more than 900 blogs around the web.

I must say, blogroll.org is the place I visit when I just look for something to read and it never let me down, I discovered tons of new blogs thanks to it and I still follow some of those blogs and it's a great place for someone like you to find new blogs around the world!

So those were my main sources for finding blogs, if you have anything to add upto that post, just let me know and I really hope this posts helps you out!

Thanks for reading, as always see you in the next one!
